Voices of a natural forest
The Sihlwald is a nature discovery park located near the city of Zurich and is a nationally significant nature conservation area. It is intended to transform into a natural forest without human interference, at its own pace and with its own rhythm. The soundscape composition ‹Voices of a natural forest› takes you on a virtual 24-hour walk through the Sihlwald, allowing you to experience the unique soundscape of a mixed beech forest deep within the woods, all the way down to the entrance of the nature discovery park. The park is situated in close proximity to railway tracks, a motorway and the Zurich airport, making the human impact even more evident. The gradual passage of time is sonified with guitar strings, reflecting the spacial movement within the forest and emphasising on the relational dimension of listening and sonic practices.
